Original Music
With styles ranging from R&B to classical, Nia’s soulful and eclectic music is a great fit for commercials, television and film. Her gospel singing background in church contributed to her love for music at a young age, having written her first song at the age of five. Nia has a Bachelor of Music degree in theory and composition and a Master of Music degree in composition. She is a composer of opera, instrumental music, and writes for artists and herself.
Chrysalis Extended, for orchestra
This is my first large scale piece in a while. I've been focused on chamber music most of my career because it's the easiest to get played. I am so happy and proud to have worked with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO). They are world class, and just a pleasure to collaborate with.
Burgundy in Autumn, a String Quartet
If I were writing an analysis paper on my string quartet, I’d mention that the unison pizzicato followed by the transition section leading into the B section is what starts to give this piece its defining characteristics. I love that this music can be talked about in that way, but I want to talk about the sentimental part of it too. This was the first string quartet that I wrote and I spent countless hours perfecting it until finally it felt complete. Emotionally, I feel the warmth, clarity, and expression of the strings is what shines through and molds the piece together. Huge thanks to Friction Quartet for bringing the notes that I wrote to life. Also thank you to Festival Napa Valley for providing the platform.
